The following opportunities to volunteer as an usher at Cirque Du Soleil are coming up. It may seem strange to post volunteer opportunities this far in advance, but events like this are very popular and volunteer slots can fill up quickly!

If you would like to help, please email us with a list of the dates you’d like to volunteer for. If you haven’t volunteered with us as an usher before, please state that in your email and we will send you an information package and provide you with further information. All ushers at AESC events must be 19 or older.

August 29 – volunteers arrive at 6:00 pm

August 30 – volunteers arrive at 6:00 pm

August 31 – volunteers arrive at 2:00 pm

August 31 – volunteers arrive at 6:00 pm

September 2 – volunteers arrive at 3:30 pm

All times listed above are when you’re required to be at the AESC. Doors for each event will open an hour to an hour and a half later. Showing up early allows volunteers and event staff to prepare, receive any last-minute briefings and be in position by the time the doors open to the public.

Please note that most parking near the AESC on event night is paid parking. At this time there are not many free alternatives, unless you are able to walk a couple of blocks. Being dropped off or carpooling are great options, if possible. If you’ve parked away from the arena, you may wish to walk to your car with a friend; if you’re not able to, don’t hesitate to ask a security guard for assistance.

Volunteers play a crucial role in our community; your help is sincerely appreciated!

The Volunteer Fair this past weekend was attended by 20 non-profit organizations and well attended by volunteers. Many made contact with potential volunteers who were looking for a new volunteer experience. The group from the Optimist Club told me that they found a very excited volunteer and ended up taking her out for dinner that evening in order to talk further about what their club’s mission and activities.

I enjoyed meeting with all of the participants and spent some time with some that I had not previously met. Our mascots had fun handing out balloons and stickers to the children (did you say it was hot in there???). Thanks to the very willing teenage girls- all 6 of them – that took turns wooing hearts and spreading the word about volunteerism and Volunteer Abbotsford – we love you!

We are now looking forward to the many workshops scheduled for the next few weeks and registration is coming along – for the link please see the Programs and Services section of this website.

H.O.M.E. means “Healthy Opportunities for Meaningful Experience.”. Our office is located at 31581 South Fraser Way in Abbotsford. We are a non-profit society funded in partnership with Community Living BC. We were originally part of the Woodlands downsizing project. At this time, the H.O.M.E. Society supports more than 60 challenged people in our community.

H.O.M.E. Society has a wonderful location on South Fraser Hwy and Bradner Road that has enough acreage to build a Community Garden. There is a lot to be done to accomplish this project. We have recently formed a Gardens Committee, developed a brochure and we are ready to get started. Being a non-profit society, we despartely need some help. We need to have the ground tilled which will take a large tractor and rototiller as we are reclaiming the farm land that has not been worked for 12 – 15 years. This garden will create a pesticide free Community Garden and social opportunity for the folks we support, friends, Community Partners, and volunteers. The spaces will be 10 feet by 20 feet at a nominal fee of $25.00 per year. Come and join the fun!

H.O.M.E. Society can be contacted by telephone at 604-852-7888. Our web site is www.homesociety.com (opens in a new window).
